I Own Both The MBT Kisumu and The Skechers Cadence Shape Ups XT and
I purchased the MBT Kisumu a year ago. They were my preferred sandal until 6 weeks ago when I was in a Skechers store in Manhattan. Saw the Skechers Cadence XT Shape Ups and decided to try them on just in passing not expecting anything close to my wonderful MBTs in comfort or function. Was I wrong in my assumption. After walking around the store for some 10-15 minutes, I was surprised to find them not just as comfortable as my wonderful MBTs...but shockingly notably and clearly better! So I plunked down my hard earned cash and I have not looked back once. The MBTs reside in my closet while I so enjoy the excellent comfort (and the same benefits as my MBTs) that surpasses that of my MBTs in a significant way. Lower priced...and better...What more could I want?
Don't even question it - they're worth it...
I had never before spent anywhere near this kind of money on a shoe. But I had plantar fasciitis very badly for 3 years- to the point that when we went shopping my husband would drop me off at the door of the store - I would get what I needed and leave, and be almost in tears by the time I left. At work I never wanted to get up from my desk. I had tried all the exercises and everything I could to get rid of the pain, but it just persisted.
We went to the mall one day, having to go by the shoe store to get to where we were going - and I saw these. I didn't believe they would really help, but I had heard of them before, so I asked to try them on. From the first moment I put them on, I could walk without pain. I never took them off. I wore them out of the store, and we walked all over the mall that day. They told me I should break them in slowly, but I personally never noticed any of the problems others have noted. I have not worn anything else since, and now own 4 pairs. I will never be without my MBT's. The days of crying when I got up in the middle of the night are gone. My plantar fasciitis was gone within a couple of weeks of buying the MBT's, and has never returned. The only time I get let off at the door anymore is if it's raining hard. I've started walking for recreation again, and have not had any problems at all -as long as I wear my MBT's.
Redux - Miniature Sandals
Updated Review:
I was a bit hasty in my previous review. It turns out that due to some confusion between Amazon's ordering system and the seller's system what I received was actually a woman's US size 9. Shoemania quickly and politely corrected the problem, emailing me a prepaid return label and sent off another in the correct size. Though they forgot to honor the 2-day shipping agreement they promptly credited me the price difference. I've had a few weeks to try these sandals now and I like them very much. I bought them to replace my beloved Mephistos which I had for years and had worn threadbare. I'm diabetic and have problems wearing most other tighter fitting shoes so sandals tend to be my footwear of choice.
These sandals do take some getting use to - they're a lot like walking on cushy rockers. This makes it more comfortable to walk as the sandals rock forward with you in natural walking motion. It is possible, however, to accidentally rock backwards far enough to fall backwards, so some care is necessary. They are comfortable enough to wear all day and on extended walking tours. One nit is that the strap that goes across the instep tends to push into your foot causing a little discomfort. This is unavoidable as a result of the walking/rocking motion that is the point of the design. Another nit is that the clips that secure the straps are a bit small and they're a little difficult to maneuver. Overall, though, they are an excellent product - well made. They still don't beat my beloved Mephistos, but they are 2/3 the price and a fine replacement.
Previous Review:
I wish I could comment on this sandal for its comfort and ergonomic design, but I am unable to squeeze into this very expensive miniature to be able to tell. When I opened the box I immediately noticed the size problem and checked the markings on the heel strap - European size 40 1/3, US size 9.5. Puzzled, as the sandals are significantly smaller than my other size 9.5 shoes, I took them to my friend at Nordstrom who measured them with his spiffy meter. European size 38.5 / US size 8. That seems more like it. Why such a significant difference? Have they no quality control? For as expensive as these sandals were I expect much better.
